The Four Chairs of Service

Before a Sister may be considered for an invitation to Tucker-Coffee Grand Court, she must complete one of the Prince Hall York Rite’s most honored journeys—a path marked by faithful leadership within each of the four York Rite Bodies.

Each chair represents one of these distinguished bodies and symbolizes the office of its presiding officer:

  • Worthy Matron — Order of the Eastern Star
  • Most Ancient Matron — Heroines of Jericho
  • Royal Perfect Matron — Ladies of the Circle of Perfection
  • Princess Captain/Princess Commandress — Heroines of the Templar Crusade/Cyrene

The honor of this journey is not measured by titles alone. It is measured by faithful labor, unwavering commitment, spiritual character, and dedicated service to the Order and its members.

Only after a Sister has been duly elected to and faithfully served in each of these four chairs may she become eligible for consideration and invitation to receive the distinguished title of Princesses York Cross of Honour.

The four chairs represent more than offices held—they tell the story of a Sister who answered the call to lead, remained steadfast through every season, and demonstrated through her service that she is worthy of consideration for this exceptional honour.

The Journey to honour through faithful service

Before her lies a map unlike any other—a sacred pathway shaped by service, leadership, sacrifice, and faith. The mountain rises high into the sky, and every portion of its terrain represents a season of her advancement. The journey will not be easy. She must travel through water, fire, ice, and wind—four powerful elements that will test her endurance, refine her character, strengthen her leadership, and deepen her dependence upon God.

The rain marks the beginning of her service in the Order of the Eastern Star and her labor toward becoming Worthy Matron. Beyond the storm awaits the intense fire of the Heroines of Jericho, where she will serve as Most Ancient Matron. Higher still lies the purple ice of the Ladies of the Circle of Perfection, where she will assume the responsibility of Royal Perfect Matron. Near the summit, she must withstand the fierce winds and darkness of the Heroines of the Templar Crusade/Cyrene.

At each stage lies a gavel, symbolizing the authority, responsibility, and service entrusted to her. Each gavel marks an advancement along the journey, but none can be reached without faithfully enduring the terrain that comes before it. These are not merely positions to be attained; they are sacred assignments requiring humility, discipline, courage, and unwavering commitment.

Her journey began in the Order of the Eastern Star as she was elected as Worthy Matron, where she entered the waters of service and learned what it truly meant to labor for others. As she prepared to serve as Worthy Matron, heavy rain fell upon the mountain, flooding the path and making every step difficult. Yet she prayed, “Lord, order my steps,” and continued forward. Through dedication, sacrifice, and obedience, she discovered that worthiness is not found in a title, but in serving faithfully—even when the road is uncertain and the storms are strong.

Having remained steadfast through the rain, she advanced to the Heroines of Jericho and was elected to the office of Most Ancient Matron. Here, the terrain burned with fire. The heat represented the trials of leadership, the pressure of responsibility, and the refining of her character. Though the flames surrounded her, they did not consume her. With God’s strength, she continued climbing, learning that true leadership requires courage, humility, wisdom, and a willingness to serve when the work becomes uncomfortable.

Higher still, she was elected as Royal Perfect Matron in the Ladies of the Circle of Perfection, where she was elected as Royal Perfect Matron. The mountain was now covered in purple ice. Every step was slippery, the air was bitterly cold, and progress required patience and careful judgment. She could not move hastily, nor could she allow fear to freeze her in place. Trusting God to direct her path, she pressed forward with grace. Through this season, she learned that perfection is not the absence of difficulty, but the discipline to remain faithful, balanced, and committed while walking through it.

At last, she climbed toward the Heroines of the Templar Crusade/Cyrene and was elected to the office of Princess Captain/Princess Commandress. The path led through a dark forest overtaken by powerful winds. Trees bent to the left and right, darkness obscured the trail, and every gust challenged her ability to remain standing. Still, she held firmly to her faith. She understood that the winds of adversity may bend a servant, but they cannot break one whose strength comes from God. Through faithful service, perseverance, and steadfast devotion, she continued toward the summit.

When she reached the top of the mountain, she looked back upon the elements she had overcome—water, fire, ice, and wind. Each terrain had tested a different part of her spirit. The water tested her endurance. The fire refined her leadership. The ice strengthened her discipline. The wind proved the depth of her character.

Unknown to her, the eyes of the garden had been watching—not merely the offices she held, but the manner in which she served. They witnessed her faithfulness in the rain, her courage in the fire, her steadiness upon the ice, and her determination against the wind. Through their observation, she was found distinctly deserving to receive an invitation to the Garden of Queens.

Beyond the mountain stood a beautiful, gated island reserved for those whose lives have demonstrated that service, leadership, and character are the true pathways to elevation. The gate did not open because she sought recognition; it awaited her because she had faithfully completed the journey.

With her invitation in hand, she understood that every storm, flame, frozen path, and powerful wind had prepared her for this moment. God had ordered her steps, strengthened her through every terrain, and taught her to remain steadfast.

Her journey was not simply a climb toward honour—it was proof that those who serve with faith, lead with humility, and walk with character will, in God’s appointed time, be elevated.
